Christmas feast for home

For a festive night in we’ve gathered some seasonal and local ingredients and sprinkled some Middle Eastern elf dust on them to create this Middle Eastern feast to heat and eat at home.

Middle Eastern Feasts in Dvir’s family home always begin with a table full of mezze – salads, dips and challah (and shouts at us not to fill up on bread), followed by main dishes with grains and more salad, and finished off with nuts, fruit and fresh mint or sage tea. The main course for this feast is Tanzia, a sweet and savoury dish that’s often served during Rosh Hashana – Jewish new year which usually takes place in September – to wish guests a sweet year ahead. Our dessert includes ma’amoulim, a date filled biscuit traditionally made for Christmas by Christians in the Middle East. The gingerbread medjoul dates are a nod to Nicola’s family traditions of having chocolate kimberleys at Christmas time. They are like these but better!

Wishing you a wonderful Christmas and a sweet New Year!
